Přestože se Michael Dietlinger zabývá i malbou, těžiště jeho práce spočívá v grafice. Své tisky v klasických technikách linorytu a dřevořezu, které jsou spojeny s uměním avantgardy 20. století, na níž on navazuje, řadí do rozsáhlých cyklů. Po formální stránce směřuje ke stále větší čistotě, což platí zejména o sérii linorytů z posledních dvou let, v nichž figurativní motiv redukuje do jednoduché zkratky v jedné výrazné barvě, odrážející se od bílé plochy papíru, někdy zdůrazněné i asymetrickým umístěním motivu ke kraji obrazového formátu. Zasazením do „nekonečného“ bílého prostoru jsou předměty vytrženy ze svého přirozeného kontextu, jako by nás autor chtěl podnítit k tomu, abychom na tyto jinak zcela banální předměty, které máme každý den před očima, pohlédli tak, jako bychom je viděli poprvé.
