Irene Grau je fascinována fotografickým portrétem, který je na rozdíl od svého referentu v podstatě nesmrtelný. Staré fotografie neznámých osob i skupin, ať už jde o pohlednice, nalezené podobenky či třeba náhrobní portréty, abstrahuje vždy adekvátní rukodělnou formou: uhlem, malířským gestem minimalizovaným na štětcové stopy či drobnomalbou na diapozitivu i na smaltu. Komentuje tak samu postatu technického zobrazení, které ačkoliv je v čase téměř neměnné, může nabývat různých subjektivních podob a z nich vycházejících rezonancí.
