A day before the opening reception for the graduate exhibition in Zurich, Russi had a cherry picker stop in front of the gallery, and from a distance of two meters she threw a small metal object through the second-floor window. Her installation consisted of the hole in the window and the shards of glass on the floor – and of course the small but heavy (more than a kilogram) object. It was not a rock, but a cast brass meringue, a typical Swiss desert made of whipped egg whites and sugar. In other words, the complete opposite of something heavy. The artist’s aim was the symbolic act of destruction – which can be of a cleansing nature – and to bring a breath of fresh air (in this case, quite literally) into the closed space of the gallery.
