In Rephrase, Ruiz attempts to create a kind of combination of typography, public art, and landart in which he fashions various English verbs beginning with the prefix “re-” from corresponding materials and places them in public spaces, thus creating autonomous letter-based sculptures that he transfers into the gallery environment in the form of bizarre installations (writing made from bird cages) or in the form of photographs.
