Paul Beumer

Paul Beumer’s paintings and installation look at the contemporary myths that permeate media and public opinion. In Beumer’s case, these involve aristocratic families. The world of extravagant fests, exquisite palaces and tangled relationships is here presented in an experimental double format: on the one hand, as a complex, obsessively conceived installation composed of news clippings, small oil paintings, and hand-written notes; on the other hand, as an ecstatic impasto painting drawing inspiration from famous court portrait painters. –pv-
